Austroraptor cabazai by vasix Austroraptor cabazai by vasix
A horrendously massive picture, to commemorate nothing in particular, except for almost a week-plus of work on this pic, and yes I'm tired after painting and painting and painting this thing.
This depicts my attempt to draw a white, feathered dinosaur, the large southern dromaeosaur (unenlagiine) Austroraptor. It lived 70 million years ago (Maastrichtian), in Argentina, and remains were found in the Allen Formation.

Austroraptor's arms are supposed to be short, but I intentionally extended the feathers of the wings of this large, adult male. There are two half-sized (full adults were 16 feet long) males in the far side of the pic. Also, this pic is inspired by the fishing unenlagiine idea-Austroraptor itself has a long jaw with small, conical teeth, ideal for plucking slippery prey. There are so many by other friends of mine, all of which are way better, albeit there aren't any Austroraptor among them-hyrotrioskjan.deviantart.com/a…, fav.me/d50zfia , fav.me/d54fyom, karkajou1993.deviantart.com/ga… yeah, THOSE links show real stunners, unlike mine, even if my dromaeosaur genus is the biggest of the southerners.
Why I wanted white, I dunno....I was referencing Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus), a favorite water bird of mine, and then I thought of putting warm colors on the front body.

So the big male fishes in the swampy forests of Argentina, once part of Gondwanaland, the great southern continent. The water is clear, so his reflection can be seen well. The fish he's caught is a very big ray-finned bony fish, covered with moss and algae. Water lilies are a favorite among my flowers. I love algae too, so I put plenty. This is a waterway with plenty of life, so enough to support giant feathery theropods for a while anyway. The wall of green is a great vegetated hill. I am also sorry if the reflections are not exact, but I was slaving away trying to get textures right here.

It's cool to see dromaeosaurs like Austroraptor not attacking large animals and killing them easily and portraying them as animals and not monsters.

Really nice job on the water, it looks so clean and fresh, and the coloration on the dromaeosaur is lovely. It reminds me of a flame-point Siamese cat.

Yes, not sure why, just the white fading into the orange, very nice color scheme.

It's not bad, although of course I did think that you would color this picture :) but it's alright, you just may need to fill out the area out at the back with something extra. Don't worry, it isn't a bad start

Nice work! The reflections on the water look great! The whole thing has a really nice colourful atmosphere to it. And I like the other Austroraptors in the background. they remind me of herons or something similar.

i love the atmosphere!
but flowers only started to develop during the cretaceous so there were only white coloured and non-specialised (unlike the water lily) flowers

That was among the Early Cretaceous flowers. By the LAte Cretaceous, closer to the end of the dinosaur age, things like the magnolia had already developed, and water lilies, well, one can never say

I like the reflections but you could have made them a little more distorted to show the effect of the water
