Yutyrannus huali by vasix Yutyrannus huali by vasix
I am happy to announce that it is my first DA year, and I feel so awesome drawing this amazing new beast which has been causing such a stir. I hope that the craze has not yet ended, for otherwise suicide will be my only option :XD: (naw, just kiddin', people on da floor......:)) so just see if this is alright.
When I joined DA, all I had were some rather crappy pics of dinosaurs and other random prehistoric animals, all uncolored and they weren't even scanned.

Trying to figure out where I fit in was hard. Then, I discovered Photoshop and my life changed for good.
I mean, now I could start painting my dinosaurs. I'm back to them, because dinosaurs have always been there for me, sorta like a safety net, something good and familiar and warm to look forward to, or to look back on and reminisce. A graze that began over thirteen years ago, is now a deep passion, and it's DA that helped me get my faith back.

Now, Yutyrannus is finally part of my official dino series!!!! I :iconbigheartplz: this dinosaur, a tyrannosauroid covered with feathers. Hell, I depicted male T.rexes with lion-like manes, but this is too good to be bloody true. Anyways, this Yutyrannus male who's really close, is bellowing to proclaim ownership of his territory. His younger brother and sister stand behind him, a respectable distance.
These three look like abominable snowmen in dinosaur costumes-or the other way around-but I do love a good new tyrannosaur. I decided to stretch out the crest on the snout as well as add large horns to make it look more imposing.

Birds are fictitious.

Whoever thought a T-Rex with feathers looked funny should think twice when they meet this bad boy! Amazing job.

they are, however, chickens that could very brutally kill an undefended person :)

It reminds me of either a Tauntaun from Star Wars, or one of the critters from Where the Wild Things Are. Either way, it's still very unique :)

Cool! I'm loving some of these interpretations of this guy. It's awesome when a prominent new dino comes out and everybody draws it, really highlights all the different styles of paleoart we have out there!

However a lot of people seem to be going overboard with the whole "Yixian had a cool climate thing". The average temp was 10C, but that doesn't necessarily mean it got below freezing often enough during the winter to create arctic-style landscapes. Think more like Alabama in the winter with a few rare heavy snowfalls, rather than Alaska ;)

Thanks, I know, Yutyrannus is causing a huge craze across the web. :) Well, I think umm....with more trees and bare patches of moss and soil and stuff in the landscape like Brian Choo's image? He still has a forested background with respectably sized patches of snow. :)....

Wonderful to see all the different versions of Yutyrannus popping up in such a short space of time. I like it when different artists make it "they're own" with they're own unique flourishes.

For the record, the level of snowfall in my depiction is based on Grand Canyon NP, Arizona, Nov 2011.

The woodlands on the outskirts of the park, not the Canyon itself. There was a light snowfall the day before.

Yep, it's just a tyrannosauroid, not a member of tyrannosauridae. Yutyrannus is basal.

Thanks a lot! I really fell in love with this dino too and made him look absolutely terrifying....only problem was that I had to count all its teeth exactly....but it came out well :)
